company history

Watson Petroleum started off as a Regent Oil distributor. The initial expansion of the company began in the 1960s, with depots being set up in Swindon, Oxford, Theale and Bletchley. When Regent Oil was taken over by Texaco, Watson Petroleum soon became Texaco's largest authorised distributor in the UK.

In the 1970s Watson Petroleum moved into new areas of business, with the acquisition of a number of service stations and a Calor Gas dealership in the south-west of England. Geographically Watson Petroleum expanded into Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Hampshire. A spread of business northwards was a feature of the company's expansion in the 1980s as Watson Petroleum built up important strongholds around the rural areas of England.

The development of systems to support and enhance the business played an important part of Watson Petroleum's continued growth throughout the1990s. As the millennium came Watson Petroleum continued to open new depots in existing areas like Devon and to take the opportunity to branch into new areas of the country such as Ledbury, Stoke, Louth and Wisbech.

In 2003 Watson Petroleum took full advantage of new technology and all depots were linked together, an essential element in getting customer, credit, stock and pricing information to the depots. In 2006 the company underwent a major change in corporate identity, the word ‘Petroleum' was dropped from the name and a new more environmental logo adopted.

Watson Fuels has always looked ahead and will continue to do so, utilising fully the opportunities presented by technology for new products and routes to market.
